After three years in Wellington, my sister is finally moving back to Auckland, but before she relocates, I made one last eating frenzy trip before my free accommodation and private driver pack her bags. Like all my ventures in Wellington, our first stop is a place to eat and we decided with breakfast at Egmont Street Eatery.
Transformed from an old industrial car park to a multi-level eatery and function space, Egmont Street Eatery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and incorporates fresh local ingredients to produce contemporary spin on modern classics. By comparison, their dinner menu is more enticing with small and large plates to share, but being a Saturday, we ordered from their weekend menu.
I had the smoked potato hash with pork and fennel sausage, slow cooked egg and chili. The potatoes had a lovely thin crispy skin and a fluffy interior. Nicely seasoned dish and the gooey yolk of the egg was perfect. My sister opted for the Breakfast Burger made with pork and fennel sausage, bacon, fried egg, tomato relish and rocket. She demolished the burger with yolk and relish dripping down her hands.
As we came early, we just happened to beat the morning rush so service was quick, friendly and efficient. Perfect way to start the day!
