Melbourne: Sugar Prawn

Known as a booze-orientated food hall that showcases some of the best Malaysian street food, Sugar Prawn opened up to the Melbourne community in Collingwood back in July 2015.

The easiest way to enjoy Hawker food is to share so we could try out more dishes between us. This proved to be a harder task than we thought because there were too many items on the menu that we wanted to order. After much discussion, we decided on these four dishes.

Chicken Wings with Onion Sambal

Home made Lobak Sausage with Bean Curd

Beef Rending with Jasmine Rice

Chili Crab Claw with Fried Buns

What an absolute feast. My favourite would have to be the chilli crab claw which I happily ate with my fingers. The sauce was a creamy blend of spices that packed a kick and I soaked it up with the accompanying fried buns – delish! The crispy chicken wings dish was also a winner. Fresh from the kitchen, it had just the right amount of crispy coating and were well seasoned.

Sugar Prawn was impressive. From the food and beverage options down to the plastic chairs and metal crockery that screams Asian Hawker halls.
