From the creative team that brought us Dear Jervois, Major Sprout is a recent addition to the cafe scene in Auckland CBD. With floor to ceiling glass walls, spacious dining area and an eclectic display of light fixtures and floral arrangement, it screams sleek and sophistication.
Head Chef Phil Czerwonatis’ menu has a green approach and offer dishes like a fresh and healthy version of the Korean Bibimbap, quinoa and brown rice fritters and a mushroon and truffled gnocchi with a 62 degree hen’s egg as well as sweet options in the cabinet by Raw Kitchen.
On a delicious toasted buttery brioche, my green eggs benedict with sauted spinach and house-cured slab bacon was splendid. Eggs had a gooey centre and the bacon was crispy and flavoursome. My only displeasure was the amount of sauce – it was a tad dry by the time I was halfway through. I paired my brunch with a blueberry and basil smoothie.
Overall, Major Sprout left a great impression. With friendly staff, delicious food and gorgeous decor – what more could you ask for in a city cafe?
