Odettes Eatery situated in City Works Depot has been on my dining wish list for a while now. After being turned away for dinner twice because they were full, I decided to try my luck for an early weekend brunch with my sisters. We were delightfully surprised that we were offered a table straightaway. The permanent resident to what used to be a temporary pop up store, Odettes has been open since 2014 and has been a much raved about addition to the Auckland CBD dining scene.
Their brunch menu is only available during weekends but majority of the items can be found in either the weekend breakfast or lunch menu. Decided to eat something savoury, I had the smashed avocado on toasted rye bread with a beautifully poached egg and a side of heirloom tomatoes. The side of tomato was extremely disappointing and considering I paid $4, I expected more than a few slices of tomatoes where some were not even ripe. The avocado however, was creamy and delicious.
My sisters ordered the Merquez sausage savoury crepe with poached egg and the Tahitian vanilla crepe with lemon yoghurt and strawberry compote which they throughly enjoyed.
The place quickly filled up after we were seated but our food came quickly as well as our beverages. The dining area is large, airy and elegant and opens up to a bright covered courtyard. Service was average – the wait staff on the day was rather inattentive and took quite a number of attempts before we managed to have our orders taken. Despite my small rant regarding the tomatoes, it was an overall pleasant meal.
