Venturing out to Blockhouse Bay is not something I do often but recently my friends and I have started doing hikes around Waitakere Ranges in West Auckland and what a great opportunity to start discovering the cafe scene out west.
Surrounded by rather run down shops on the main road, The Block stood out with it’s spacious outdoor dining area and modern exterior.
My plate-sized hash brown had everything I wanted for breakfast! Crispy hash brown topped with bacon, mushroom, onion, mozzarella and a fried egg. Not the healthiest way to start the day but it ticked all the right boxes. My dining companion’s wild mushroom with scrambled truffled eggs on toasted ciabatta gad a generous serving of mushrooms but was a tad on the oily side.
Although the food was good, the lack of attentive service was a disappointment. We were ignored when we came in despite the cafe being relatively quiet and it took a lot of effort for us to get the attention of the waiter so he could take our order. Such a shame because we enjoyed the food.
