As part of our weekend getaway in New South Wales, my friend and I managed to squeeze in and take the last table for lunch at Muse Restaurant in Hunter Valley. An award-winning restaurant owned by Megan and Troy Rhodes-Brown and located within the Hungerford Hill Wine complex, Muse Restaurant has recently received Two Chefs Hat in the 2015 Sydney Good Food Guide!
The menu at Muse is produce-driven and emphases on fresh and high quality ingredients where it is mostly locally sourced. Wanting to try as much as I could in our lunch sitting, we opted for the 5 course Tasting Menu with Hungerford Hill wine pairing.
Complimentary Mini Onion Brioche | with Black Garlic Butter
Complimentary Amuse Bouche | Consumme, Truffle Crisps and Savoury Macaroons
Sashimi of Hiramasa Kingfish | Fennel, apple with wasabi yoghurt in the snap frozen with liquid nitrogen.
Cuttlefish and King Brown Mushroom ‘Noodles’ | Sake and muzo cream, yuzu gel and squid ink wafer
Hunter Valley Partridge | Salt baked beetroot, goats cheese and horseradish cream
70 Hour Slow Cooked Wagyu Short Rib | Mashed potato, sautéed mushroom with vineyard weed (The best dish from the tasting menu)
Muse’s Famous ‘Muse Coconut’ | Coconut husk made from dark chocolate with coconut mousse acting as the flesh and filled with coconut water.
Without a doubt, this is one of my best meals in 2015. The attentive service from the wait staff and wine connoisseur, the exceptional quality of ingredients and the decadent flavours of each dish makes Muse an absolute winner. Muse is unpretentious and offers a unique fine dining experience where regular people like myself do not feel out-of-place. If you’re ever heading to Hunter Valley, be sure to book ahead and include Muse Restaurant in your itinerary!
