One of my favourite dining companions relocated to Sydney at the beginning of the year and since then, I have been in a constant hunt for cheap flights so we can extend our dining scope from Auckland, all the way to Sydney. My latest adventures with my culinary partner in crime took us to Brewtown Newtown, a trendy coffee hangout/cafe/micro roastery in the hip Newtown Suburb in Sydney.
A delayed flight meant that we came in just before peak lunch hours and were greeted with a long queue of hungry customers wanting a table at this popular joint. We left our names with the waitress and roamed around the adjoining store upstairs while we waited for people to leave. It took about 30 minutes before we managed to get a table but boy, the wait was worth it!
It was hard decided what to eat – all the options on the menu looks appetising. We decided to make our choices from their lunch menu and I opted for the Fig Jam Salad which was an orgy of fresh beautiful figs combined with leafy greens, blue cheese, pancetta and nuts. A moreish combination of creamy mild blue cheese and the sweet figs. My dining companion ordered the saffron linguine with garlic chilli prawns and kale and that too was delightful.
Coffee was ten out of ten as you would expect and we even purchased a couple cronuts for afternoon tea.
