Sydney: Jamie’s Italian

Jamie’s Italian, founded in Oxford back in 2008 has slowly grown to over 30 restaurants worldwide and in Australia alone, there are five! My recent dining experience at Jamie’s Italian in Sydney marks my first meal at one of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s eateries. Arriving in Sydney with little planning in terms of making reservations, we were very impressed with the online booking system. Booking the night before, we managed to get a table here for lunch during the Easter weekend. Located within the busy Sydney CBD, the eatery spans over two levels and oozes with a rustic charm.

Opting for a light lunch, I ordered their Famous Prawn Linguine in an entrée size with a simple green salad. The combination of garlicky pan-fried prawns, tossed with tomatoes, chilli, fennel and pasta and topped with a rocket was just what I needed. The green salad was mediocre. The yoghurt and tarragon dressing did not have a whoa factor and although the glass dressing holder was cute, it was difficult to retrieve the dressing due to its thick consistency.

Price-wise, it’s relatively decent for a celebrity chef restaurant chain, but for simple rustic Italian cuisine, it is on the pricy side. Service was attentive and efficient considering it was Easter weekend. It was a good meal overall, but it did not impress me enough to actively recommend to my friends travelling to Sydney.
