Auckland: Loeuf

This place has been on my dining wishlist for a while, ever since I came across photos of the artistic dishes on Zomato and Instagram. My friends and I finally managed to try L’oeuf in Mount Albert. Getting a table at the busy little cafe was much easier than expected (we assumed we had to wait), and the five of us took a seat outside while we enjoyed our dose of vitamin D.

I opted for one of the most popular dish from Loeuf, the Nest! An artistic representaion of a bird’s nest, it consists of two crumbed soft-boiled eggs sitting inside a filo pastry nest and on top of a leafy mesclun salad with feta cheese, beetroot puree and an addition side of crispy bacon.

Along with the dainty edible blooms, this looks just like a bird’s nest on a tree. The beetroot ketchup was a tasty way to add moisture to the salad and my favourite part is the sunflower seed coating on the eggs which added a subtle nutty taste. The side of bacon is optional but highly recommended. My soy iced coffee made with Atomic beans was spot on and was the perfect beverage for a warm sunny afternoon.
