Since reading popular reviews of Burger Burger from fellow bloggers, I’ve added this burger joint on to my dining wish list. The latest addiction to the ever-so-popular Ponsonby Central, this place was packed with customers on a late Friday evening. With a wait time of at least 45 minutes for dine in, my friend and I decided to order takeaway and just eat outside at their waiting area.
As the name suggests, burgers are their focal product. You chose the type of meat (beef, chicken, pork, lamb, fish) with your choice of either traditional buns or bunnuce (lettuce). You can get add ons like cheese, eggs, beetroot and pickles, but all for an extra cost. My dining companion ordered the beef burger with an egg add-on while I decided to get the ‘Big Red’ special which is made up of a thick beef pattie, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, smoked cheddar cheese and chioplete sauce.
The burger was outstanding and the size was quite substantial. I like the combination of the ingredients and the pattie was nicely cooked with a slight pink tinge. We ordered a side of crispy potato skins with a side of aioli. I completed the meal with a feijoa soda while my friend overdid it with a chocolate thickshake.
The burgers are not cheap and can cost an average of $12 if you decided to add extra trimmings and with sides priced at $6, it’s not a cheap meal. Despite being a busy night, our takeaways were ready in about 10 minutes. I would love to dine-in the next time I’m here, we’ll just need to make sure to come earlier before the lunch/dinner rush. I’m curious to see how they execute the fish burger!
