Metro Best Restaurant 2014

Every year, Metro Magazine releases their list of the 50 Top Restaurants in Auckland, and it’s the only time I go out to buy their magazine!

This list, determined by nine judge (restauranteurs and food writers), include some of the old favourites as well as new establishments that are less than a year old, which can be quite surprising for some!

This year’s Supreme Winner is Masu with Sidart winning Best Fine Dining, Clooney with Best Degustation, French Cafe with Best Service (no surprise there!) and Michael Dearth as Best Restauranteur! Sid Sahrawat from Sidart wins Best Chef and Gatlin Avery from Depot took the award for Best Personality.

Out of the 50 restaurants in this year’s list (see below), there are plenty on that I highly recommend and these include:

There were a few surprises in the list and I don’t understand how restaurants like Jervois Steak House and Botswana Butchery didn’t make it. Highly disappointing considering my love for Botswana Butchery which serves some of the best steaks in town.

  1. Not surprising that those restaurants made it to the Top 50, it’s usually pretty consistent although there was a lot of competition this year with all those amazing new eateries popping up. Probably a very tough choice for the judges to run out of numbers for Botsowana and Jervois :/ I’m still amazed at how many you’ve been to :O Glad there’s still plenty of options about for you though haha!

    • Yes I agree! There is just more and more eateries popping up in auckland and we are pretty lucky with all the options.

I enjoy eating out too much 😛

  2. Super impressed at how many of the top 50 you’ve been to – I’m embarrassed by how few I’ve been to! Something to aim for though, I guess 😛
