One of my favourite ways to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon is having a great meal at a cafe while reading the daily newspaper or a book. In Auckland, consumers are spoiled for choices where we have a large number of cafes offering superb food, amazing coffee and a cozy and comfortable environment.
About two weeks ago, my partner and I headed over to Takapuna for our usual Saturday activity – shopping and eating. There are several dining choices available in that area, but we went with Cafe Melba which has franchises all over Auckland (I frequently eat at the Ellerslie branch which is only fives minutes from my office). We arrived to a busy cafe and managed to get a table for two.
My partner ordered the usual bacon eggs benedict and that was served on an English muffin with a creamy hollandaise sauce. Taste-wise, it was like any other regular eggs benedict, the eggs were nicely poached but a little more sauce would have been appreciated. I decided to get something different and ordered the chorizo omelette and it was amazing. The omelette was light and fluffy and the combination of the spicy Spanish chorizo, feta cheese, red onion, and spinach worked very well together. Both dishes were around the same price (around $16.50) but the omelette was a bigger portion and more substantial and filling compared to the eggs benedict.
So next time you’re in Takapuna, stop by Cafe Melba. They have good food, excellent service and a great place to refuel after shopping at the Department Store (which is only about 5 minutes away).
