Our third destination on our mini road trip in North Island took us to Brew Cafe in Thames. This relaxing cafe is situated off State Highway 25, in the iconic Brian Boru Hotel. A decent cafe to stop by and grab a quick bite to eat before traveling further to towns such as Coromandel, Whitianga, or like us, Whangapoua.
The creamy button mushrooms on toast was pleasant. The mushrooms were not over cooked, so the firm texture was still there. The big breakfast consist of eggs, strips of crispy bacon, slices of grilled tomatoes, toasts, sausages, and hash brown. I decided to have poached eggs while my partner ordered scramble (not pictured). I, personally, prefer my eggs either hard boiled or poached because it’s a healthier option as it does not require any oil or butter. In this case, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the yolk was still runny.
Overall, a nice cafe that serves decent and affordable food. It is relatively cheap compared to other cafes in Auckland and the portion/taste is very similar. Service is a little slow but it’s tolerable and heaps of street parking available.
