Olaf’s is a relatively new bakery/cafe in Mt Eden. We went on a Saturday morning and were greeted by the lovely cashier, busy dining area, and the sight of baguettes, danishes, sour dough and pastries which are freshly baked onsite.
I ordered the Gourmet Breakfast which had baked beans, semi-dried tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, eggs (I decided to get poached), crispy bacon, sausages, potato cake and Olaf’s six grain toast. A hearty meal which I did not manage to finish. Everything was superb. The hollandaise sauce was rather buttery for my taste, but it was a decent match to the perfectly poached eggs and crispy bacon.
My partner, as always, decided to get the bacon eggs benedict. The dish’s appearance was nowhere near as nice as mine, but it was good nonetheless. The sauce could have been more eggy but it’s only a minor issue. Perfectly poached eggs!
Overall. Olaf’s was much better than I expected. Our coffees and food were served quickly despite morning being busy. Good quality service from the staff and the cafe has a lovely interior and vibe. They even offered fleece blankets for anyone that wish to sit outside, I found this a very considerate gesture! I can see this being my favourite cafe in Mt. Eden, if only it’s open till late. Something they should consider if they wish to compete with Frasers and Circus Circus!
