The Grove – Revisited

The Grove in Wyndham Street is a luxurious dining experience and has won the Supreme Restaurant award and best Fine Dining/Formal Restaurant Award for two consecutive years. This is my second review of this amazing restaurant and this time my friends and I decided to try their four course dessert degustation.

This is the first dessert. The sherry ice cream sandwich served with granny smith apple sorbet. Garnished with a crispy slice of green apple. A refreshing start and the sorbet was an excellent compliment to the creamy sandwich. This would have to be my favourite dessert out of all four.

The second dessert is a luscious cheesecake made with the ‘Royce Rolls’ of French cheese (as explained by the waiter). We were instructed to eat from left to right – cheesecake, sorbet with cookie crumbs, rose-water marshmallow,  warm madeleine and poached rhubarb. A beautifully presented dish and the warm madeleine was crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The mandarin sorbet added a fruity balance to this rich cheesecake dessert.

The third dessert can be described as chocolate overload. We were also instructed to start with the left  which involves – chocolate sauce, chocolate sorbet, chocolate fondant, chocolate parfait, mandarin sorbet, chocolate brownie and chocolate ice cream. The great thing about this dish is that it is not overly sweet. The bitter dark chocolate parfait accompanied with the mandarin sorbet was a great match and the warm brownie with the chocolate ice cream was amazing.

By the time we reached the last dessert, we were all pretty full. But we still had room to fit in the white chocolate and raspberry souffle with house-made vanilla ice cream and cookie crumbs. I would have to say that The Grove makes the best souffle. This light and fluffy souffle and the fruity taste is different from the typical chocolate/vanilla souffle that other restaurants serve.

The Grove’s dessert degustation is a must try for anyone that has a sweet tooth. Four different desserts, each beautifully presented and everything on all four desserts were excellent. Friendly and informative staff. Amazing food. Comfortable sitting area. There is no question that The Grove deserves the Supreme Restaurant Award for 2011.
