Mission Bay Cafe

My friend – who recently came back from Sydney – and I had decided to meet over a nice lunch and coffee and the weather was so good that day, we decided to go to Mission Bay. We don’t usually have lunch in Mission Bay, so we had no particular cafe in mind. Instead, we had decided to go to the busiest cafe on the main road and Mission Bay Cafe was it!

This cafe, located right under Berkeley Cinema, offers a selection of cakes, slices, sandwiches and salads in the glass cabinet by the cashier as well as an all day brunch/lunch menu. As we were pretty hungry, we decided to try something fresh from the kitchen and ordered from the brunch menu. The creamy mushroom served with chorizo and crispy hash potato was an amazing dish. The potatoes were nice and crispy and the chorizo sausage added a small hint of spice. However, I was expecting portobello mushrooms rather than button, but it was tasty none-the-less. My friend ordered the bubble and squeak which is a pressed hash of potatoes, peas, pumpkin and onion served with crispy bacon and two poached eggs. The dish had great presentation and the bacon was perfectly cooked and amazing. My friend’s enjoyment was obvious as she cleared the plate with no problems!

Although the food at the Mission Bay cafe was excellent, the pricing of their meals is slightly on the expensive side. It’s about $15-$20 per dish and although the portion was enough for us, I can see it not being adequate for others. The coffees is of good standard and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. They also have a separate dinner menu at night time and will be a convienent place to eat before/after the movies! Maybe I will come back to try their dinner menu!
