Brunch-ing on a Saturday morning/noon is a great start to a weekend. It’s even a better start for an early Valentine’s Day celebration with my partner. Carriages Cafe in Kumeu is open for breakfast and lunch, 7 days a week and it has an unique setting where it is styled with boutique furniture and even two train carriages where we can sit and dine.
I ordered the hash brown tower which involves layers of yummy beans, crispy hash brown, bacon topped with two fried eggs and hollandaise sauce. It was a delicious combo and the beans were cooked Mexican style with a bit of a bite. My partner ordered the bacon eggs benedict served with rocket and focaccia instead of the usual spinach and bagel/muffin. However, the portion of that is rather small considering the price.
The two meals that we ordered were superb but the service we had that day could have been better. We had to chase up our coffees twice as the food had arrived before the coffee. They also managed to get my coffee order wrong and gave me a long macchiato instead of a short. But other than that, Carriages Cafe was a lovely place to dine.
