One Tree Grill

Had an extremely late dinner last Tuesday at One Tree Grill for a friend’s birthday and was surprised they were still willing to seat us despite our late arrival. Mind you, the restaurant was still pretty busy at 9pm with tables that have yet to order. This fine dining restaurant in Epsom has a modern interior setting with comfy leather couches by the bar as well as a fireplace which would have been great for winter. Looking down towards our feet by the bar is a glass panel which reveals the extravagant underground cellar and its extensive wine collection.

As it was a rather late meal, my friends and I had decided to skip our entrees and opted for breads to start instead. The breads were served piping hot with butter and olive oil and I can say that One Tree Grill serves great bread. There is quite a selection in the menu where they offer a variety of mains as well as meats from the grill where sauce and sides can be mixed and matched. They also offer a seasonal menu which uses the best ingredients during the season.

For mains, two of my friends decided on the premium beef eye fillet from the menu, one picked the venison from the grill whereas I ordered the market fish of the day. The dishes didn’t take long to arrive and they were all delicious. However, I would have to say that I regretted not ordering the steak instead as it was so perfectly cooked. Portion-wise, it could have been a bit bigger but at least it gave us room for dessert!

When it came time for ordering desserts, we couldn’t decide on what to get. Great thing about some restaurants is that they understand the difficulty dessert-lovers have when it comes to choosing a dessert and they offer a dessert tasting platter where we can try everything from their menu. One Tree Grill offers the deluxe dessert tasting platter which consist of a vanilla bean creme brulee, chocolate mousse, sticky prune and walnut pudding, homemade ice cream and sorbet as well as a selection of petit fours. My favourite would have to be the sticky pudding that had chucks of juicy prunes. Divine!

This is my second visit to One Tree Grill and both times, the service was excellent and the food is flawless and consistent. The dining room can be slightly bigger as this place is often packed with locals wanting an amazing meal. Booking is recommended in order to avoid disappointment.
