My favourite seafood restaurant in Auckland will have to be Soul Bar and Bistro. This phenomenal restaurant have been in Viaduct basin for a long time and recently won the Cuisine Magazine NZ Restaurant of the Year in the Casual dining category. It also have a great view of the Viaduct Harbour which is often packed with people on a Friday/Saturday night.
However, the day that I chose to visit Soul was a horrible day with crazy wind and rain. Yet, the restaurant was pretty packed and even though we had to sit in the terrace, the outdoor heating and the blanket that they provide for the ladies wearing skirts/dresses kept us nice and cosy.
We decided to have the mixed seafood platter for two which was more than enough! The platter varies day to day and ours had seared tuna with roast tomato, beer battered snapper, steamed mussels, baked oysters and salt and pepper calamari. It was served with a mixed salad and baby potatoes.
The large portion means that we were unable to finish the gigantic plate and left feeling satisfied and happy. I love going to Soul as they have never disappointed me. The food was always excellent and the service was always friendly. The price however, has kept me away. But it is definitely worth a try for anyone that loves seafood and great dining!
